Oxford

In operation from January 1643 (1642 old calendar) to June 24, 1646 when the town surrendered. Original mint equipment was transferred from Shrewsbury (which itself came from Aberystwyth). Issues include Pounds, Half Pounds, Crowns, Halfcrowns, Shillings, Sixpences, Groats, Threepences, Halfgroats, Pennies, gold Triple Unites, Unites, and Double Crowns. Surviving halfcrowns are the most common, but larger silver and gold is rare to very rare, and smaller silver scarce to rare. Issues are identified by an "OX" mintmark, plume or book privy marks, and with dates from 1642-46.
